The Hope of Africa Baptist Ministry

God has allowed us to start a West-African church-planting ministry called ‘the Hope of Africa Baptist Ministry’. The purpose of this ministry is fund the advancement of church-planting efforts in Ghana and throughout West Africa. As we train men for the ministry, and men graduate from the Bible Institute, we are sending them out to plant churches.

“Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation:”

Yesterday, Angie and I traveled to Tarkwa. As the

Yesterday, Angie and I traveled to Tarkwa. As the crow flies, Tarkwa is 30 miles. Because of the condition of the roads (they are an obstacle course… seriously… but that is another post for another time), it took two and a half hours to get there. Tarkwa, along with all of its sister villages, is a good sized town. Because of the roads and traffic, it took over an hour to drive through the city from one end to the other. There were multitudes of people there. People for whom Christ died, was buried, and rose again. We found several Mosques, two Ghana Baptist Convention churches (charismatic, drumming, dancing, tongues speaking, works salvation), several Protestant and Catholic Churches, and even saw five Mormons on the streets actively promoting their cult. The people are religious, as most Ghanains are. They really believe that they have to do good works to go to Heaven. Tragically, there is not one Gospel-preaching, Bible-believing, Independent, Fundamental, Baptist church there. In fact, there is not one gospel-preaching church there. And that is tragic. This is not an “off the road” bush village. Tarkwa is a very large town on a main thoroughfare.
We are praying that God will allow us to send young men or a family there to preach the gospel and plant churches.
While we celebrate the resurrection of Christ this Sunday, let’s not forget that there are literally hundreds of thousands of “Tarkwa’s” all over the world who have never heard the true story of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.

This is the site of the church-plant in Agona. Next week, we will be setting up a 40’ by 60’ tent on this land to use for their church until we can get a building constructed. We are actively praying and asking the Lord to provide the finances to build this church a building on the foundation that is already laid. We need $15,000 to begin this church-building project. Would you help us pray for the Lord to provide? Would you pray about helping this church-plant?

What a day with the faculty and students of the Fundamental Bible Baptist Institute at the Takoradi, Ghana campus. We thank the Lord for our online students as well in the Grenadine Islands, South Dakota, and Bulgaria. Our classes here in Ghana were exceptionally well today. Thankful for the online teachers, Pastor Jodie Cole, Preacher Kevin Whitman, and Missionary David Ballinger, who are investing in each student.

Sometimes I wonder “how” we are going to train

Sometimes I wonder “how” we are going to train men to be pastors and preachers. I wonder “how are they going to get it”? The answer is simply “line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little.” Until they evidence that they get it, we certainly cannot send them out as pastors. Brother Keith Shumaker has emphasized over and again that we do not take shortcuts in the ministry and in training men. He is so right.
The men that are here today (five folks short for legitimate reasons) are thoroughly enjoying these classes. In this specific Institute video, Preacher Kevin Whitman is teaching “Rightly Dividing the Word II”. One of the new students very excitedly told me today “I get it; I get it.” Then we had a detailed discussion concerning the priesthoods of Melchizedek, Aaron, and Christ. I love it when people get it. I am excitedly anticipating the day when we send out more of these students to plant churches for God’s glory.

God give us modern plain preachers like Amos. Just a country boy preacher CALLED OF GOD to preach! And when Amaziah the priest tried to insult him by telling him he should go back home (cause he wasn’t fit for the King’s Chapel), he told Amaziah that he was just a herdsman that God called to preach to Israel. Then he told Amaziah that Amaziah’s wife would be a harlot, Amaziah’s children would be killed, Amaziah’s nation would go into captivity, and Amaziah himself would die in a foreign land. Wow!!! God give us men with confidence in the call of God who are divorced from the opinions of men who will simply and plainly preach the Word of God. Preachers today more worried about looking trendy, dying their hair and looking like a clown, wearing skinny jeans, justifying social drinking, drums on the platform, and dancing in the pews having to get special lighting and emotionally themed music to gain (and then manipulate) a crowd. God give us preachers, like Amos of old, who will cry aloud and spare not and warn of judgment to come. Thank God for the generation of preachers before us like Oliver B Greene (pictured), Lester Roloff, J Frank Norris, Sam Jones, D.L. Moody and so many more who would just rare back and preach Hell hot, Heaven sweet, sinners condemned, and Jesus Saves! I was raised buying and listening to every recording I could of Oliver B Greene and Lester Roloff. What a difference those men were from the leading fundamentalists of our day who are more interested in pleasing the crowd with soft words and ambient atmospheres than they are preaching “Thus saith the LORD”. Young preachers, Twenty-five hundred years later, Amos has a book in the Bible and Amaziah has been forgotten. Preach the Word! Forget about the crowds, the camp meetings, and the carnality. Just go where God called you and Preach the Word!

One year ago today, Angie had surgery to remove cancer. Today, she has officially been cancer free for one year. We thank God for His mercy and grace. I cannot and do not ever want to imagine life without “my Angie”.

Today after the morning service, the members of Fundamental Bible Baptist Church, Apremdo, walked to the site of the church building and got to meet on the upper level for the very first time. They began making preparations for the first service in their own building on Easter Sunday (six weeks away). They prayed, talked about the work that needs to be done in the next six weeks, and were exhorted to give both their labor and their finances to finish preparing the site and the building for their first service. God has made the “impossible” (for them) “possible” through your giving (Praise the Lord). Now they are taking responsibility to finish the work (which is absolutely necessary) in order for them to take ownership of and have respect for their own church building. Thank you to all who have prayed and given toward this building. Their faith is becoming sight!!!
